On 25 October 2023, the General Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province issued the “Implementation Plan for Further Improving the Medical and Health Service System in the Guangdong Province” (“the Plan”). The Plan proposed to establish medical treatment consortiums and regional medical centres with Hong Kong and Macao, strengthen the exchange and mutual communications of traditional Chinese medicine among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, develop an innovative research and development and transformation platform for traditional Chinese medicine with independent intellectual property rights, and support the simplification of the approval procedures for registering traditional Chinese medicines for external use which have been marketed in Hong Kong and Macao.
