On 23 November 2023, the Science and Technology Bureau of Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone issued the “Implementation Rules of the 9 Measures for Promoting the Meta-universe Ecological Development in Guangzhou Nansha New District (Free Trade Zone)” (“the Measures”). The Measures proposed to promote a number of scientific research platforms that conform to the research direction of technology innovation in meta-universe industry and have significant role in science and technology, and provide financial support of up to RMB 200 million for each platform. The scientific research platforms include overseas universities and research institutes (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) that ranked top 500 in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking or QS World University Ranking in the recent two years (two years prior to the year of entitlement), top 200 research institutes ranked in the natural index list, Fortune Global 500 companies. The Measures will be effective from 23 November 2023 and will be valid until 19 October 2025.
