Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect
Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect were launched in November 2014 and December 2016 respectively. The schemes allow eligible Mainland investors to trade eligible stocks of companies listed in Hong Kong through the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, and also allow Hong Kong and overseas investors to trade eligible stocks listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen through the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Inclusion of Exchange-traded Funds (“ETFs”) under Stock Connect officially commenced in July 2022. The exchanges in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong implemented the expansion of scope of eligible stocks under Stock Connect in March 2023, including the extension of coverage to stocks of foreign companies that are primarily listed in Hong Kong.
