Greater Bay Area Cities

The Office has actively visited different cities of the Greater Bay Area, with a view to enhancing Hong Kong’s high-level co-operation with Guangdong, Shenzhen and other Greater Bay Area cities, thereby strengthening connectivity and integrated development within the Greater Bay Area.

2024

The Chief Executive’s 2024 Policy Address announced the enhancement of the Residential Care Services Scheme in Guangdong by increasing the number of participating residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) from 4 to 11. The Commissioner, Ms Maisie Chan, along with representatives of the Office, visited four participating RCHEs in Foshan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhongshan respectively to learn about their services and facilities and met with Hong Kong elderly persons residing there.

As the Chief Executive’s 2024 Policy Address announced the initiative of developing low-altitude economy, the Commissioner, Ms Maisie Chan, visited Shenzhen to learn more about its latest progress in developing low-altitude economy. Her visit included a state-level high-tech enterprise actively engaging in the development of low-altitude economy, and a test base for low-altitude intelligent integration in Longgang, which is one of the key infrastructural facilities for the development of low-altitude economy.

The Commissioner, Ms Maisie Chan, visited Macao and attended the opening ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Cultural Heritage Forum, witnessing the official launch of the online platform of “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Heritage Walk”, the first cross-regional heritage trail jointly developed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The Commissioner also visited the exhibition “Shared Roots and Interconnected Branches: The Importance of National Culture and Sentiment within the Heart of Macao’s Historical Buildings”, as well as the conservation project of Barra District.

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs (SCMA), Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, visited Nansha, Guangzhou to learn about its latest developments. He visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Fok Ying Tung Research Institute, the Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall, a high-tech enterprise, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and Minxin Hong Kong School (Guangzhou Nansha).

The Commissioner, Ms Maisie Chan, visited Zhuhai to learn about the direct passenger service between airports in Hong Kong and Zhuhai under the Fly-Via-Zhuhai-Hong Kong operation. She also visited the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, where she viewed numerous military and civilian aviation and aerospace exhibits that are “high-tech, precise and advanced”, including the newly developed drones, acquiring an in-depth understanding of the country’s development and achievements in pursuing aerospace endeavours and building itself into an aerospace power.

The Commissioner, Ms Maisie Chan, visited Guangzhou to learn about its low-altitude economy development. She visited a local research and development (R&D) enterprise in smart drones, and an R&D and manufacturing enterprise in drone payload system, grasping the latest development of low-altitude economy in the Greater Bay Area. With great potential for wide application in different areas, low-altitude economy can contribute to the development of various industries and give fresh impetus to Hong Kong’s economy.
